ISLAM teaches that marriage is "half of religion".Because it fulfils so many basic needs of individuals and of society, it is the cornerstone upon which the whole Muslim life is built.
The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said:
"O You young men! Whoever is able to marry should marry, for that will help him to lower his gaze and guard his modesty." (Al-Bukhari)
Modern life brings strains and pressures, which can upset even the- most compatible relationship. This means that nowadays, to protect the' spirit of cooperation and happiness which is the sign of the true' Islamic marriage, careful thought needs to be given to the mechanisms, which help husband and wife to live together and respect each other's rights.
ISLAM, unlike other religions is a strong advocate of marriage. There is no place for celibacy like, for example the Roman Catholic priests and nuns. The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) has said " there is no celibacy in Islam." "Marriage is my Sunna. Whosoever keeps away form it is not form me."
