*Gisborne News*
This is the main headline article from the local copy of our newspaper (The Gisborne Herald). Which I thought I'd share with everyone.
It really makes one wonder how anyone can take another human beings life, especially one that claimed to love.
Domestic violence is something that is prominent all around the world, it just saddens me that people actually still put up with such crap.

Domestic violence tragedies
Thursday, 9 November, 2006
Gisborne police were called to two separate domestic-related homicides yesterday morning. They are pictured outside a Buchanan Street house where they had found a man and woman dying from stab wounds. This came just two hours after they were called to Temple Street, where they found one man dead and a woman seriously injured from gunshot wounds. TWO separate domestic disputes that left three dead and another critically injured yesterday have dealt a blow to a community that has been working hard to combat its high level of domestic violence.
"It is such a shame that something like this has happened in Gisborne when everyone is working so hard," said acting Eastern District commander Inspector Waata Shepherd.
He urged people to seek help and talk about
their problems in order to prevent the "extreme action" that happened yesterday.
Inspector Shepherd’s comments follow the launch of two separate homicide inquiries by Gisborne police, which involve couples who had previously been in a relationship.
Acting area commander Senior Sergeant Moera Brown said in both incidents the woman had or
was ending the relationship and it appeared as if the "male party was not able to deal with this".
Police were called to Temple Street around 9.30am after receiving reports of a domestic dispute and the sound of gunshots.
They arrived to find a four-year-old girl in the backyard and the house locked.
Police kicked in the back door and entered the house, where they found a 30-year-old man dead from a shotgun wound to the chest. A shotgun was found next to his body.
A 26-year-old woman, the mother of the four-year-old girl, was found with a gunshot wound to her chest and injuries to her hand.
It is believed she tried to block the gunshot with her hand.
She was taken to Gisborne Hospital in a critical condition and had surgery last night.
This morning Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford said she came through the operation well and the prognosis was reasonable at this stage. She could be flown to Waikato Hospital today, he said.
Her four-year-old daughter and another eight-year-old daughter are being cared for by family.
Sen Sgt Brown said they were still at the Temple Street scene when they received calls at 11.30am that a second domestic dispute had erupted in Buchanan Street.
Witnesses said they saw a man dragging a woman, but when police arrived and knocked on the door there was no response.
They gained entry by forcing both the front door and a bedroom door open. They found a man, 42, and a woman, 36, on the floor with stab wounds.
They were still alive at the time but died at the scene a short time later.
A knife was found next to the man’s body.
Police had not released the man’s name this morning, as they were waiting to hear back from his family.
Sen Sgt Brown said it was a real tragedy, not only for the families involved, but also for police staff who had to attend both homicide scenes.
"It is a tragedy in the sense that this has impacted on four different families," she said.
"I find it really sad, because a lot of organisations are working really hard to combat domestic violence."
These two domestic-related homicides follow one in Fergusson Drive in September, which left a man and a woman dead.
A pathologist was to fly from Auckland this morning to carry out post-mortems on the three bodies.
Police are still speaking with family and friends of all parties involved to determine the circumstances that led to both incidents.
